Happy Monday! |
We’re two thirds of the way through January. Two to two and a half weeks of the school holidays are left. How are you juggling all the balls? Are you using the school holiday programs or taking the opportunity yourself to take an extended break and recharge? Two of my favourite ways to recharge are getting out in nature and reading books. This year I’ve set myself a goal to read twenty six books - one a fortnight for the whole year. January is off to a good starting with four finished already. Once I get into a good book, they can be difficult to put down, especially if I’ve found a cosy nook. Would you like some book reviews of what I’ve been reading? So far this month, I’ve finished “Again, Rachel” ; “The Resort”; “The Honeymoon “ and “The Man who died Twice” Being out in nature is another way I like to recharge. It could be going for walks in the bush or along the coast. I find it soothes the soul. My particular favourite is water and being by the beach. The water can be so changeable, still and calm one day to powerful and commanding respect another day. Finding the time to recharge yourself, on top of the motherhood mental load can add additional complexity and ball juggling to the equation. I find that it is one of the first things to be let go of, but we do this at our peril. You might call this recharging time something else such as alone time where you are not responsible for anybody other than yourself, active relaxation or maybe the oft-talked about self care. When I refer to self-care, I don’t mean things like a relaxing bubble bath (although they are good 😀). I mean things like getting enough sleep, moving your body, getting outside in nature and eating nutritious food. For me these always seems to be a work in progress. Life is about the journey rather than the destination though, right? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below |

Issue #14 Mother’s Day On Sunday it is Mother’s Day. The one day of the year dedicated to showing appreciation of our mothers. This one day generates spending in the billions of dollars per year – is your inbox cluttered with Mother’s Day emails for everything from hotel breaks to high teas to lunches, brunches or the latest must have gadget or winter warmer? Is this really the best way to show the Mothers in our lives how much we value their presence, unconditional love and support. Mother’s...
Issue #12 Do lots of activities! All the time to try and tire them out so they sleep well at night. It’s good for children to be active; to explore their surroundings and learn what they’re capable of as well as how far they can push themselves and their boundaries. As parents this can be really hard because: · We would really love some ‘down time’ to decompress · We would really like to protect our children from being hurt, getting sick or whatever other consequences there may be for pushing...
Issue #11 Musings on Motherhood Motherhood is hard. It’s about choosing your hard though. No one warns you that you’re going to lose yourself when you become a mother, whether it’s the first time, the second time or whatever number you might be up to. Every time you see those two lines on a pregnancy stick, you immediately have new hopes and dreams. Just they’re not for you, they’re for someone else; someone completely new who exists only in you. Motherhood is hard. The new version of...
